Sunday Psalms: Fictional Narratives & Poetry Inspired by the Psalms, Proverbs, & Other Biblical Works
I want to sing
Loud and long,
Fill haunting silence with melody true.
When I sing I forget to be afraid.
Maybe music is a weapon
To guard my timid heart.
I want to paint the walls,
Splash color onto death,
Transform chaos into home.
Life’s canvas craves hopeful shades
Reds, blues, orange and green,
Infuse life to shoulders bent,
Bring passion to valley grey.
Dancing, walking, breathing,
Life can be our art
Let us dive and revel
In Creator’s endless palette.
So let me sip from goblets
Brimming wine Divine,
Suck blood-red flesh from cherries
At a table rich and full.
Raise my glass,
Savor the Host,
In His house, an eternal guest.
Don’t let me rush,
Don’t let me hurry,
Meals thrive on artist rest.
Don’t let me miss a moment
Of this fragile existence,
I wasn’t made to snack!
I was made to eat the evening. We are made to feast.
Jehovah is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures;
He leadeth me beside still waters.
He restoreth my soul:
He guideth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil; for thou art with me;
Thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me.
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies:
Thou hast anointed my head with oil;
My cup runneth over.
Surely goodness and lovingkindness shall follow me all the days of my life;
And I shall dwell in the house of Jehovah for ever. Psalm 23 (ASV)
Question to Ponder: When do you tend to snack rather than feast?
