Howl: For the Las Vegas Victims
Today, we dedicate our poem to the victims of the Las Vegas shooting. Our deepest sympathies to their family & friends. ∼ Chasing Ebenezer
Sunday Psalms: Fictional Narratives & Poetry Inspired by the Psalms, Proverbs, & Other Biblical Works
Howl
Pop, pop, beat, beat–stop
Bullets rip through flesh & bone
Blood escapes our mortal veins
Drips, gushes, howls its grisly disdain
Knives slice sweet skin
Marring art divine
Image of the Creator
Assaulted
Earth howls its refrain
Is there no balm in Gilead?
No anesthetic cure
for evil’s jagged, jealous tongue?
Arise, O Lord,
Break open clouds
Water this, Your planet, with life’s cleansing salve
Silence mankind’s howling cry,
cries of fathers, mothers, children, lovers
We agree: this world needs its Destiny
Is there no balm in Gilead? is there no physician there? why then is not the health of the daughter of my people recovered? Jeremiah 8:22 (ASV)
Question to Ponder: In the midst of this week’s pain, where have you seen beauty?
Song Recommendation: This week we’d like to suggest our song The End.
