Sunday Psalms: Fictional Narratives Inspired by the Psalms, Proverbs, & Other Biblical  Works

Maid of Orléans

Name I’ve only heard

One I’ve never met

We’re all misunderstood in life

Oft well-respected in our death

People say the harshest things

Just behind our back

All of us–Murderers

in disguise

Guess it’s easier to kill someone

when you don’t see

terror in their eyes

People say the nicest things

standing over graves

Rose petals fall like snowflakes

Covering stab wounds mouths have made

The crowd is fin’ly gone

I linger by the grave,

Too afraid to turn my back

Though dead, our words remain

Behold, the ships also, though they are so great and are driven by rough winds, are yet turned about by a very small rudder, whither the impulse of the steersman willeth. So the tongue also is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how much wood is kindled by how small a fire! And the tongue is a fire: the world of iniquity among our members is the tongue, which defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the wheel of nature, and is set on fire by hell. James 3:4-6 (ASV)

Jehovah, who shall sojourn in thy tabernacle? Who shall dwell in thy holy hill? He that walketh uprightly, and worketh righteousness,
And speaketh truth in his heart; He that slandereth not with his tongue, Nor doeth evil to his friend, Nor taketh up a reproach against his neighbor. Psalm 15:1-3 (ASV)

Question to Ponder: Who is it easy to slander?
